Senior Championship The Downs 1: 11 Castledaly 3:5
We opened our championship campaign in Cusack Park on Sunday evening, The Downs stormed into the game and at the end of the first quarter were leading 0:7 to 0:1. Castledaly upped their game in the second quarter and out scored The Downs 2:1 to 0:1 to leave the scores level at halftime. Within minutes of the restart The Downs goaled from the penalty spot, but Castledaly scored quickly replying with 2 points. With ten minutes remaining The Downs were ahead 1: 10 to 2:5. A further goal from Castledaly gave them a point advantage, The Downs responded with a point to tie the scores and take a deserved share of the points. Under 10s
The under 10’s boys opened their 2010 season with a double friendly away to Coralstown Kinnegad on Tuesday evening last. Both clubs fielded 2 12-a-side teams which produced great games of football. Thanks to the home club for the matches and we look forward to the return leg in The Downs later in the year.

This sets the lads up nicely as both the North Westmeath league and Mullingar Area league will be starting shortly. Details of matches will be issued at training which continues on Fridays at 630pm – new players are always welcome.

Club Gear
Club Gear can be purchased or ordered at underage training on Saturdays. New this year are football gloves with The Downs crest (this make of gloves are worn by several county teams) special introductory price €8 for underage and €12 for adult sizes.
Cycle to Sligo
The North Westmeath Hospice Home Care Foundation would like to thank the The Downs Gaa club for the use of their facilities for our annual fundraising return cycle to Sligo and family cycle to Ballinafid,the facilities add greatly to the social side of the event allowing experienced, novice and family cyclists share their experiences of the weekend over a cup of tea and enjoy the marvellous food. We would also like to thank everyone who baked, made sandwiches or helped out in any way.
