Scor
On Saturday night last The Downs hosted a semi-final of Scor. We competed in Figure Dancing (Michelle Carthy, Ciara Carthy, Niamh Moriarity, Geraldine Dagg, Margaret Monaghan, Grainne Carley, Sarah Moran, Sharon Hynes), Solo Singing Jenny McNamee, Recitation Noel Lynam, Novelty Act ( Noel Lynam, Niamh Moriarity, Sarah McGuire, Eugene Murray, Stephen Devine Kevin Cleary, Anthony Rowan, Barbara McDonagh ) Dance (Brenda Deihy, Sarah Moran, Yvonne Murphy, Sinead Lynam, Greg Crowley, Colm Rowan, George Coyle, Conor Carley). Well done to all our competitors, the county final is in The Downs this Saturday. We are represented in Figure Dancing, Solo Singing, Novelty Act and Set Dancing.

Saturday 23rd in The Downs
Tyrrellspass were the opposition for our first game of the year and started the game well scoring 1:1 without reply, The Downs then scored 0:3 followed by a point from Tyrrellspass to leave the halftime score 0:3 to 1:2. On the resumption Tyrrellspass took the initiative again and with a quarter to go led by 2:5 to 0:4. The Downs upped their game and scored 1:3 to Tyrrellspass’s point to ensure an exciting end to a very entertaining game. League Div 1 The Downs 1:8 Athlone 3:5
Sunday 24th in Athlone
In our first game of the year The Downs seized the early initiative scoring 1:2 to 0:0. But Athlone recovered and scored 3:3 to a point to leave the score at halftime 3:3 to 1:2. The second half saw The Downs mount a come back as they scored 0:5 to Athlone’s 0:2 but despite intense pressure The Downs could not score the goal that would have shared the points.
