New players are welcome at all ages and adult

Ladies Under 14 Championship Final

The Downs 3-07 St Paul’s 3-05

On Saturday last in Shandonagh our under 14 team played in their first ever final. Playing against the wind in the first half The Downs put in a terrific effort to go in at half time 1-01 to 0-01 ahead. At the restart St Paul’s responded with a goal and continued to gain control to go four points up. The final quarter saw The Downs with great self-belief reduce the deficit and in the final minutes go two points up. In the five minutes of added time The Downs tackled in groups and worked themselves to exhaustion to claim the first ever under age title for The Downs Ladies Football Club. The Downs well deserved this title and is a reward for the tremendous effort put in training from last march. Thanks to Sheila Lister of the County Board who presented the trophy to team captain Nicola Devine to the delight and cheers of the large support present.

Under 10 Blitz

We played in a Five team blitz in Rochfordbridge on Sunday last, fielding a young and physically smaller team than the opposition we competed with great spirit and bravery. In our first match against Moate we had to give way to a more experienced team Learning from the first game we defeated Rochfordbridge and Kinnegad in the next games. In our final game against Ballycomoyle one of most exciting games of the day we were unlucky to lose by two points. Well done to all the players and to all the parents who brought the children and who stayed to support the team. A special thanks and well done to Sarah McGuire and Niamh Moriarity who coach this team and did a excellent job of managing the team on the day. Thank you to Rochfordbridge for inviting us and for their hospitality.
