Junior Scor All-Ireland
On Saturday in the All Ireland Junior Scor final in Athlone was an historic day for the club with representation in two events, Shane Dalton was first up and gave a flawless performance to put himself in contention but luck didn’t shine on Shane, however it was great year for Shane winning his first County and Leinster titles. Taking part in the last competition was our Set Dancers ( Aoife Rowan, Mary Lynam, Fiona Flynn, Leanne Duncan, Kevin McGuire, Mark Swaine, Dylan Kennedy, Shane Murray) they gave their performance of the year with a display that set the hall alight. We all waited to hear if The Downs would gain first Set Dance All-Ireland Title on their eight appearance in a Junior Scor final, as Na Dunta were announced the hall erupted in celebration by the many supporters from The Downs and Westmeath. Reward at last for all the hard work by Alice Deihy who had gone to seven Junior Scor finals with groups and came so close on many occasions but missed the title, reward also to Brenda Deihy who has also tasted disappointment as a mentor and a dancer in All Ireland finals, anyone involved in Scor and set dancing is delighted that Alice and Brenda have that All Ireland title. We The Downs club thank you both for your years of dedication and hard work which ensures the club is a regular contestant at national level. Reward especially for this set of dancers some have six consecutive county titles and three Leinster titles you have truly done you club and county proud, all those nights practicing are rewarded with a life long memory. A truly memorably year for Kevin McGuire who in his final year in Junior Scor secured that elusive All-Ireland title after six years of trying.
