The Downs Ladies Football

The Downs Minor Girls v Milltown
Division 1 Semi Final
1/2 time score Milltown 1-6 to The Downs 2-3
Full Time score Milltown 3-10 to The Downs 3-5
In what can only be called Monsoon conditions the Downs Minor girls bowed out at the semi final stage of this Division 1 County Championship in a keenly contested encounter against Milltown played in Ballynacargy GAA grounds. The Downs started brightly with some well taken scores, but all of the time Milltown kept us within reach. Given the amount of rain that fell overnight we were lucky that the match went ahead, and thst without having to deal with the torrential showers that were all too frequent during the match. It was a credit to all the girls playing that even in difficult conditions they were still able to show their skills. The 2nd half was again a tight affair and had one of two tight decision gone our way the last few minutes would have been even more nail-biting. Many of the Downs supporters that made the journey would acknowledge the courage and determination shown by our girls noting that that this Downs Minor team is very young with only 3 from our squad of 23 overage in '16. Squad on the day Ciara Faulkner, Any Dagg (capt), Amber Gilligan, Aoife Mullen, Emma Murtagh, Katie Heffernan, Niamh Rowan, Niamh Nolan, Laura Wynne, Meadbh Scally, Lucy Power, Rebecca Kelly, Sheila McGrath, Niamh Staunton, Britney McNamee, Shauna Conneely, Naoise O Donoghue, Karen Lynam, Serena Wynne, Roisin McDonagh, Olivia Glynn, Orla Murray & Ciara Wynne. Roll on 2016!
