Music in the Bar on Sunday night

Congratulations to our U16 boys squad that won the division 1 championship county final on Saturday last. A hard earned 8 point victory over Athlone in Ballynacargy completed a memorable league and championship double.  A nervous start from both sides resulted in scores being at a premium and we went in the break leading 1-2, 0-2. A rapid start from our boys to the second half yielded 1-2 and stretched the advantage to 8. Athlone as expected threw everything at the black and ambers but our defence stood firm and were outstanding as were the entire squad all season. Full time score The Downs 2-9, Athlone 0-7. Fair play to Athlone’s post match graciousness which is never easy and no doubt their young team will return in 2016. Well done to the hosts Ballynacargy who had the pitch and facilities in great condition and were well organised for the double fixture. Sunday’s Panel:   Eanna Burke, Jack Carroll, Keith Carroll, Donal Coughlan, Matthew Cunningham, Taylor Daly, Oisin Dowdall, Michael Drury, Cillian Fagan, Cathal Faulkner, Liam Faulkner, Paul Flynn, Conor Gavin, Adam Gilbride, Joshua Heneghan, Dylan Hunt, Euan Lagan, Jonathan Lynam, Ryan Mannering, Trevor Martin, Darragh Monaghan, Joseph Moran, Oisin Murphy, Ciarán Nolan, Enda O'Rourke, Joseph Robson, Max Rowan, Colin Smith, Stephen Wynne. Rest of panel: Jordan Smyth, Mikey McGrath, Luke McGuire, Oisin Raleigh. Mentors: Paddy Monaghan, Enda Monaghan, Joe Corroon, Marc Cunningham. Our lads had in the region of 80 sessions including matches since indoor training commenced back in January so you get out if it what you put in. The U15’s also secured the Summer 7 aside tournament so it has been quite a year for these lads Thanks to the families of all the players for their support and co-operation and to physios Martin and Patsy. A big thankyou to Martin Daly of Daly’s Barbers Austin Friar Street for helping with the cost of half zip tops during the year and to Davy for doing stats
