League Final

Division 3 Final :                   The Downs  5:13       Moate 3:11

On Friday night in Athlone under lights we played our second in a week against the same opposition who were able to field a stronger team as they could play their  senior tied players.  In a closely contested first half neither side could gain an advantage and the sides were level at halftime 1:7 each.  In the final quarter of the second half The Downs went into a four point lead which looked to be enough to see the game out, however Moate  scored 1:1 in the final minute to force extra time. The Downs held a one point lead at halftime of the extra-time.  The Downs dominated the final half scoring 2:2 to secure a deserved victory and gain promotion to division 2. Team: Lynda Heffernan, Amy Kenny, Amy Dagg, Amy Staunton, Aishling Egerton, Aoife Rowan, Emma Murtagh, Niamh Nolan, Claire Crowley, Niamh Rowan, Leanne Duncan, Laura Wynne, Gillian Ferguson, Ellen Tate, Bernie Corroon, Katie Heffernan, Roisin Scally, Mary Lynam, Laura Kelly, Sarah McGuire, Georgina Crowley, Caoimhe Carthy.

The team showed the calibre of football they are cabable of with the finest performance they have give over the last number of years this will need to be the standard for next year as we are back in intermediate ranks.
