U14 Div 2 Championship QF Away to Clann Gaels, Tuesday August 25th 2015.

On an bright evening in Bunbrosna our U14 girls Div 2 team were most unfortunate to come out second best to a their counterparts from Multyfarnham& Bunbrosna. There was very little between the teams throughout the game and without doubt lady luck was not on the side of the Downs girls.

The Downs took an early lead with a well taken goal. Clann Gaels however took a foothold in the match and were leading just before half time when The Downs scored 1-4 without reply to lead by 2-4 to 1-5 at the break. During the second half, the action ebbed and flowed from end to end, with many chances falling to both sides. Indeed the Downs struck the woodwork from close range on 4 separate occasions when a goal looked more likely. Clann Gaels scored 0-3 to lead by a point late on. However, after a point blank save from the opposition keeper, Clann Gaels went down the pitch to score a goal. As the Downs girls pressed forward, the home side struck the killer goal to end our hopes, eventually winning out by a score of 3-8 to 2-4. Scorers for the Downs were Allanagh Dowdall (1-1), Ciara Gilhooley (1-2) and Ellie O’Brien (0-1)

The game was a credit to all players involved, with huge commitment from both sides for the hour. The effort of the Downs girls could not be questioned, but luck deserted us on the evening. We wish Clann Gaels the best of luck in the remainder of the Championship.

On behalf of the coaches & mentors, we thank the girls and their parents for their support during the year, at training and games – both home and away. As almost all of our squad qualify for the U14 grade in 2016, we look forward to challenging for honours next year, as without doubt there is huge quality and talent within the current squad and the U12s who will join us next year.
