Division 1

We travelled to Springfield on Sunday morning in relatively good form and eager to build on recent results. The opening phase was tight and competitive, Dean Egerton got our opening two scorers to give us and early lead. However, Shamrocks soon regained the lead half through the first half with a well taken goal. The Downs began to struggle in finding scorers for the remainder of the half, with the interval probably coming at the right time. Our lads came out at the start of the second half meaning business and quickly established a two-point lead, this was soon cancelled out by the home side but this was the last of Shamrocks grip on the game, with Trevor McCormack, Shane Raleigh and Conor Gavin impressing in defence. Conor Murray found great consistency from placed balls converting four in the second half and with a brace from Luke Loughlin, the second a brilliant strike from the ground secured a 0-13 to 1-06 win for The Downs.

Division 2

We faced a strong and experienced Maryland side last Friday night in The Downs, unfortunately our lads came out on the wrong side of this one, but with plenty of positives particularly in the second half and several lads coming back from injury, places on the team are becoming competitive. Full time 3-13 to 1-09.

The minor lads kept their positive start to the year with a second-round win against Maryland/Tang in the division one league. The Downs dominated this game from the start with some excellent individual performances. Kevin O’ Sullivan and Adam Conneely were the goal scorers on the night with The Downs running out winners 2-18 to 1-06

Our U16 lads recorded a brilliant win last Thursday evening against Cill Oige. Full time 4-12 to 1-04, well done to all players.
